Born and raised in Argentina, where Ginobili is something of a national hero, Laprovittola said he looked up to Ginobili as a ‘God.’ Ginobili, in turn, took the first-year Spur under his wing.
Laprovittola was waived by the Spurs on Tuesday, a decision that had much to do with the team’s saturation at the point guard position, and Dejounte Murray’s impressive development.
“It was hard,” Ginobili said. “He is a good friend, a great kid. He worked really hard to make the team, and he did. It’s a tough day for everybody. For sure, I’m going to miss him.
