NEW ORLEANS – The Warriors’ Steve Kerr on Friday defended the right of NBA coaches like himself, the Spurs’ Gregg Popovich and the Pistons’ Stan Van Gundy to criticize the policies of President Donald Trump.
Some fans have questioned whether it’s the place of Kerr, Popovich and others in sports to talk politics publicly, saying they should stick to coaching.
“So if you go by that mantra, then everybody should stick to whatever they’re doing, right?’ Kerr said at All-Star media day. “That means nobody’s allowed to have a political opinion. It just so happens that we get these microphones stuck in our faces, so we have a bigger platform.
