Spurs’ Coach Gregg Popovich acknowledged feeling emotional as Tim Duncan’s No. 21 jersey was retired into the rafters of AT&T Center on Sunday.
“I had two moments that were tough, but somehow I managed to get through,” Popovich said Thursday before the Clippers played the Spurs.
One of the most poignant moments of the ceremony happened when Duncan turned to Popovich during his retirement speech, and said that the was much more than just a coach to him. He said he was a father figure.
Popovich was asked Thursday if he views Duncan as a son.
