SAN ANTONIO – As a shooting guard, Danny Green struggled Saturday night.
In 20 minutes, he missed both of the 3-pointers he attempted en route to a two-point outing.
But Green is so much more than just a shooting guard.
With a sensational, stifling turn against Mike Conley that he coupled with a game-high four blocks and a steal, Green excelled in his role as a defensive stopper in the Spurs’ 111-82 playoff-opening dismantling of Memphis.
“He really made Mike work,” Grizzlies coach Dave Fizdale said.
For Green, it was all about living up to his “defense first” motto.
