LOS ANGELES - Saint Mary's Women's Tennis battled the USC Trojans till the very end in a 4-2 defeat to the Women of Troy on Sunday at Marks Stadium in Los Angeles.
The Gaels got another big win from Mariia Kozyreva who defeated the No. 12 player in the country, Salma Ewing, 7-6 (5), 6-1 in the singles section. Julia Ronney also had an impressive showing as she took down Leyden Games 6-3, 7-5.
The match result came down to the decision on court six. After splitting the first two sets, USC's Mckenna Koenig took the third set over Saint Mary's Gabriela Tevez to win 6-1, 3-6, 6-0 to clinch the match for the Trojans as they move to 3-0 on the season and the Gaels to 0-2.
