BERKELEY, Calif. — Freshman Jacqueline Pelletier completed her outstanding collegiate debut Sunday by going undefeated and reaching the Gold Singles final, while four other Gaels also competed in finals on the last day of the Cal Nike Invitational.
Pelletier, seeded No. 2 in her bracket, defeated host California’s Stephanie Lin in back-to-back tiebreaking sets, 7-6(4), 7-6(4), to reach the final. Her finals match versus Arizona State’s Kelley Anderson went unplayed, leaving Pelletier undefeated on the weekend at 4-0.
Vanessa Nommensen also reached the finals of her White Singles bracket. The top-seeded Nommensen beat UC Davis’ Samantha Martino, 6-3, 6-1, in the semis.
