WTEN | Gaels Respond with 4-2 Victory Over Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. — Saint Mary’s secured their fifth West Coast Conference victory of the season on Saturday with a bounce back 4-2 win over Portland (7-10, 3-4 WCC) on the road.

After dropping the previous day’s match to Gonzaga, the Gaels (10-7, 5-2 WCC) stormed back with strong doubles and singles play to edge the Pilots.

“Our seniors really led the team today,” said Gaels’ associate head coach Simon Harston. “They set the tone. After a disappointing performance yesterday, the attitude of everyone was fantastic from the first point to the last.”

After both teams split the first two doubles matches, Clementine Clement and Emma Critser won the pivotal third set to claim the doubles point for the Gaels, 6-4.
