PROVO, Utah — The Saint Mary’s women’s tennis team clinched a place in the 2016 West Coast Conference Tournament Friday by winning its regular season finale, as the Gaels defeated BYU 4-2 in a WCC match at the BYU Tennis Courts.
The Gaels (8-10-1, 5-3-1 WCC) will be no lower than the No. 4 seed at next week’s WCC Championships, which take place Thursday-Saturday at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center in Claremont, Calif. The top-six teams in the WCC standings at season’s end qualify for the tournament.
The Gaels got started early against the Cougars (5-15, 3-5 WCC), winning the doubles point to take a 1-0 match lead.
