MORAGA, Calif. — A strong team effort by the Gaels wasn't enough to defeat Samford on Sunday as SMC fell 1-0 at Saint Mary's Stadium.

The loss moved the Gaels to 3-6 on the year while Samford improved to 4-5-1.

Gaels' freshman Sonja Rajatalo made her second appearance of the season in net on Sunday and posted two saves. Her best save of the match kept the Gaels alive as she made a sliding stop on an 81st minute Samford breakaway to hold the deficit at one.

Saint Mary's had their best scoring chance of the game in the 60th minute on a tic tac toe pass started by Hannah Diaz that allowed Jordyn Cunningham to get a clean shot on net.
