MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's (0-2-2) battled hard against Pepperdine on Saturday afternoon but came up just short in a 1-0 loss.
Pepperdine was picked to finish third in the West Coast Conference preseason coaches poll but the Gaels hung tight with the Waves for all 90 minutes. There was only a four shot attempt advantage for Pepperdine in the game and both teams managed five corner kicks.
Saint Mary's nearly took the lead in the 58th minute as Vanessa Gaitan drew a foul in the box to set up a penalty kick for Laura Trapero Sanz.
