SAN JOSE, Calif. — An early goal proved to be the ultimate difference, as Saint Mary's women's soccer dropped a close 1-0 decision at San Jose State Friday afternoon.

Today's loss moves Saint Mary's to an overall record, 3-5. The Spartans improve to 3-4 on the season, winning their final two non-conference matches of 2017.

Hannah Diaz led SMC with two shots on the day, as six other Gaels fired shots on the Spartans goal. Gabriella Hurtado scored the early strike for the Spartans, as all three of her shots found the frame.

The Gaels had two solid opportunities in the first half, as both chances were saved by Spartans keeper Paige Simoneau.
