SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Another 90-plus minutes of clean sheet work for the Saint Mary’s women’s soccer team went for naught Sunday when host Cal Poly struck with the game-winning goal 90 seconds into overtime, claiming a 1-0 win at Alex G. Spanos Stadium.
Confusion on which team’s ball it was on an out-of-bounds call early in the first overtime had the Gaels (0-4) going one way and the Mustangs (3-1) going another. That allowed Cal Poly to get behind the Saint Mary’s defense, leading to a breakaway. Jessica Johnson received a pass from Caitlyn Kreutz in the penalty box, then shot left for the game-winning goal.
