EUGENE, Ore. — Solid defense and a shared offensive attack Friday carried the Saint Mary’s volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-19) sweep over Belmont in the opening match of the Nike Invitational at Matthews Arena on the campus of the University of Oregon.
The Gaels (5-2) held Belmont (6-2) to just a .080 hitting percentage. Saint Mary’s collected 40 digs and had five blocks as a team to shut down the defending Ohio Valley Conference Tournament champion Bruins. Meanwhile, seven Gaels recorded at least one kill with three logging seven or more. Hannah Liserra and Mary Hernandez shared the setting duties with 15 and 13 assists, respectively.
