SPOKANE, Calif. — Lindsey Calvin led all players with a season-high 16 kills and Sienna Young set another career high with 15, but host Gonzaga was able to squeeze out a tight 3-2 (26-24, 16-25, 23-25, 25-20, 15-13) victory Thursday in both teams' West Coast Conference openers at the Martin Centre.

· Thursday's match couldn't have been closer. It featured 20 ties and 11 lead changes across five sets. Three sets were determined by the minimum two points. All but one set was decided by five points or less.
