MORAGA, Calif. — The Saint Mary’s volleyball team hung with its third Power-Five conference opponent in as many matches Friday, holding leads midway through each of the first two sets, but No. 12 Stanford eventually overpowered the Gaels en route to a 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-12) victory at McKeon Pavilion.

Saint Mary’s (5-5) held 15-14 leads in both the first and second sets over the 12th-ranked Cardinal (5-2), playing with them the whole way. But in both cases, Stanford went on runs to pull ahead and eventually roll to set victories. In the first set it was a 6-1 run that gave Stanford a 20-16 advantage on its way to a 25-19 set win.
