VB | Gaels Find Rhythm, Top Northern Colorado In Opener

GREELEY, Colo. — A multi-faceted attack and several strong debuts helped the Saint Mary’s volleyball team overcome a slow start Friday, as the Gaels defeated Northern Colorado 3-1 (17-25, 25-12, 25-17, 25-17) in both teams’ season openers at Bank of Colorado Arena.

The Gaels (1-0) fell behind in the match, 1-0, after a 25-17 defeat at the hands of Northern Colorado (0-1). SMC mostly beat itself in the first set with 12 attack errors and a -.105 hitting percentage. But after the short three-minute intermission between sets, the Gaels were a completely different team.

Saint Mary’s trailed in the second set, 5-3, but would go on a 14-0 run while outscoring the Bears 22-7 en route to a resounding 25-12 win in the second set to even the match at 1-1.
