MORAGA, Calif. — What has been a young Saint Mary's women's volleyball team for the past two seasons now graduates to being a squad full of veterans in 2017. The Gaels begin the 2017 season Friday with six returning starters and 10 returning letterwinners, including nine upperclassmen.
“There is no substitute for experience,” said Saint Mary's head coach Rob Browning. “The past couple of years we have been ‘young.' We are no longer young and that will be a key to our success this season.”
But even with the abundance of experience, the Gaels only feature two seniors, setting themselves up to return to the year-in and year-out dominance that gave them 10 winning seasons in 11 years from 2003-13.
