MORAGA, Calif. — A big first inning for California (13-11) was the difference maker in Tuesday's game between the Gaels and Bears as Saint Mary's fell 6-1 at Cottrell Field.
The Gaels (9-14) recorded outs against the first two batters of the game but a combination of three walks, three hits, and a catcher's interference would allow Cal to score four times in the first inning. All three hits given up by SMC starter Eileen Perez were singles.
Saint Mary's scored in the bottom of the frame thanks to an RBI double by Indya Smith but that would be the only run of the game for the Gaels.
