LOS ANGELES— In a slow start where both defenses did not allow goals scored in the first half, the Saint Mary’s men’s soccer team went the distance at Loyola Marymount, and eventually fell in a narrow 2-1 overtime decision on Sunday afternoon.
SMC outshot LMU, 21-18. The Gaels opened the match with 11 shots to nine from LMU in the first 45 minutes. Defensively, both keepers delivered impressive performances. Remi Prieur (3-3-1) recorded five saves, three of those coming in the first half.
The Gaels (5-7-3, 1-2 WCC) took full advantage right when the second half whistle blew, as Anders Engebretsen scored his second goal of the season at the 45:21 mark.
