MORAGA, Calif. — A furious beginning only foreshadowed a thrilling end Thursday afternoon, as the Saint Mary’s men’s soccer team was narrowly defeated by Pac-12 member Washington in its home opener, 2-1, at Saint Mary’s Stadium.
Both teams scored goals within the first 10 minutes of the match, making a 0-0 game quickly into 1-1 and proving both squads had the capability to beat the other. They then held each other scoreless for the next 77 minutes before the Huskies (1-1) got the eventual game-winner from Handwalla Bwana in the 87th minute.
Bwana moved forward on an attack with David Coly and Scott Menzies.
