SAN MATEO, Calif. — Nicholas Lapinid was named the University Credit Union West Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week today after posting a clean sheet against San Diego over the weekend.
The senior goalkeeper made three saves in the Gaels' double-overtime draw against the Toreros and played all 110 minutes in the match. Lapinid has not surrendered a goal yet this season across three games and neither have the Gaels as a team.
Last season, Saint Mary's defense was one of the strongest elements of the team as they successfully shut out their opposition 11 times in 18 games and Adam Cooper's club seems to have brought that momentum in 2021.
