MSOC | Gaels Take Akron the Distance in Overtime Loss

MORAGA, Calif. — In the two team's first all-time meeting, Saint Mary's took Akron to extra time, but fell just short after the Zips struck their game-winning goal in the 103rd minute to move past the Gaels, 2-1, at First Energy Stadium.

The Gaels will enter West Coast Conference action with an overall record, 3-4-3. Today's win moves Akron to 5-2-1 on the year.

The first half went back-and-forth between the Gaels and Zips as both teams had a lot of energy and pressured high. Jake Rudel had the best offensive opportunity in the opening 45 minutes as his shot from the lower right corner of the box went blocked by an Akron defender.
