MORAGA, Calif. — Jake Rudel’s goal off a set piece and goalkeeper ’s first shutout of the season made all the difference for the Gaels as they defeated Santa Clara (5-8-1, 0-4 WCC) 1-0 in front of their home crowd Sunday afternoon.
The lone goal of the match came from a free kick taken by Saint Mary’s Rafael Sanchez in the 68th minute. The ball was crossed to the left goal post where forward Jake Rudel was able to use his head and knock it past Broncos keeper Pasha Hashemi to break the scoreless tie.
