SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.-- The Saint Mary’s men’s basketball team (24-4, 15-3 WCC) showed no signs of inexperience, nerves or lack of leadership this season, as the young squad accomplished the very difficult challenge of winning the program’s third West Coast Conference title in six years after a triumphant 84-72 win at longtime Bay Area rival San Francisco .
After losing all five starters and 80 percent of its scoring and rebounding from last year’s team, not to mention being picked to finish fourth in conference, one could sense the uncertainty that hung above Head Coach Randy Bennett’s team before the new season even started.
