MORAGA, Calif. -- Belief, composure and grit were common themes expressed after the Saint Mary’s men’s basketball team pulled off an epic comeback against rivals Gonzaga to take sole possession of first place in conference standings.
Down 34-26 at the end of the first half and trailing by as many as 15 points in the second period, Gonzaga seemed to have firm control over the game and tried to suck the energy out of a sold-out McKeon Pavilion.
Despite the circumstances, the Gaels got hot late, forced three straight crucial turnovers and outscored the Bulldogs 29-13 over the last 10 minutes en route to a memorable 70-67 victory.
