MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's College Athletics announced today that men's basketball transfer center Matt van Komen has received a waiver to play immediately this season by the NCAA.
Van Komen begins his Saint Mary's career as a sophomore this season. The 7-4 center transferred from the University of Utah in the offseason.
Coming out of high school in Utah, he was ranked as a four-star player and the No. 2 recruit in Utah by ESPN. He was also tabbed one of the top-20 centers in the nation according to ESPN. Van Komen was a 2018 first team all-state selection in high school.
