Gaels hammer Pilots but fall to Gonzaga on the road

While there will be no reciprocation of last year’s regular season sweep over Gonzaga, No. 21 Saint Mary’s made Thursday night one to forget for first-year Portland head coach Terry Porter.

The Gaels (15-2, 5-1 WCC) made the Pilots go as cold as the city’s 23-degree weather Thursday night on their way to a commanding 74-33 win but struggled two nights later with a 79-56 loss to Gonzaga. The Bulldogs remain the nation’s only unbeaten team.

Calvin Hermanson shot the lights out in his homecoming, scoring a game-high and tying a season-high with 27 points in front of 1,745 at the Chiles Center.
