The women’s basketball team (23-6, 14-4 WCC) wrapped up the second seed in this weekend’s WCC tournament with two wins over their Bay Area rivals to close out the program’s fifth straight 20-win season.
Coming off an exciting two-game swing against Portland and Gonzaga, the Gaels entered Thursday’s 78-70 win at 34-29 all time vs. the Broncos, having dropped the first game of the series this year back on Dec. 23 in Moraga.
Saint Mary’s needed all 78 of those points Thursday night though, as Santa Clara scored 21 points off an equal amount of Gaels turnovers in the losing effort.
