College basketball: Saint Mary's women roll into WCC semis

The Saint Mary's women used a big rebounding advantage and a hot-shooting third quarter to roll to an 85-71 win over Loyola Marymount in the quarterfinals of the West Coast Conference tournament Friday in Las Vegas.

The second-seeded Gaels (24-6) will face sixth-seeded USF (10-9), an upset winner over No. 3 San Diego in the first round, Monday in the semifinals. Lauren Nicholson led SMC with a game-high 24 points, and Devyn Galland added 16 points. The Gaels had a 54-28 rebounding advantage over the Lions (11-29), led by Stella Beck with 11. Devon Brookshire and Megan McKay grabbed nine apiece, and Carly Turner had eight.
