STANFORD, Calif. — The Saint Mary’s beach volleyball team earned a split Saturday on the first day of the Stanford Tournament, defeating Boise State, 3-2, before dropping a close match to No. 16 California, 3-2, at the Stanford Sand Volleyball Stadium.
Mary Hernandez and Payton Rund stayed undefeated on the year for the Gaels (8-3) by winning both their matches on the day, both at No. 2 pairs. They first beat Boise State’s (4-1) Sarah Baugh and Sierra Nobley in three games, 21-16, 15-21, 15-10. They then took care of No. 16 Cal’s (13-6) Bryce Bark and Kory Lamet in the afternoon, 21-13, 21-11.
