MORAGA, Calif. — The Saint Mary’s beach volleyball team defeated East Bay rival California Wednesday for the second time this season and the second time in a row, beating the Bears 3-2 at Moraga Commons.
Saint Mary’s (15-4) won its third match in a row and ninth in its last 10 with the win over the Bears (10-5). The Gaels earned the victory with wins at No. 1, 2 and 5 pairs. SMC never trailed in the match, taking leads of 2-0, 2-1 and clinching the match at 3-1 when No. 1 pair Lindsey Knudsen and Payton Rund disposed of Cal’s Jessica Gafney and Mia Merino, 21-11, 21-9.
