SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Saint Mary’s only scored one run Saturday in the second game of a West Coast Conference series at rival Santa Clara.
But one run was all the support starter Johnny York needed.
York struck out eight and walked none as the Saint Mary’s junior left-hander shut down Santa Clara in his first complete game shutout, leading the Gaels to a 1-0 win at Stephen Schott Stadium.
The game two win clinched the three-game series for Saint Mary’s (15-9, 6-2 WCC) after it won the opener, 7-5, on Friday.
