SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Saint Mary's senior third baseman Anthony Villa made sure he left the proper impression on Friday night's West Coast Conference series opener at Santa Clara with one swing.
Villa hit a go-ahead two-run home run in the ninth inning to lead Saint Mary's (14-9, 5-2 WCC) to a 7-5 victory over the rival Broncos, just two innings after his throwing error jump-started a five-run rally for SCU.
Villa drove the second pitch he saw from reliever Nick Medeiros high over the left field wall for his third homer of the season.
