MORAGA, Calif. — Showing a “no-quit” attitude all series long, the Saint Mary’s baseball team fought until the last out Sunday, loading the bases in the ninth inning for a potential comeback, but Seattle University avoided a sweep by winning the series finale 4-1 behind starter Tarik Skubal’s 13 strikeouts at Louis Guisto Field.
The Gaels (3-1) came from behind to win on Friday after being down four runs and in Saturday’s second game after being down two runs. They sent six batters to the plate in the bottom of the ninth Sunday after entering the inning trailing 4-0 but only managed one run on a sacrifice fly from pinch-hitter Jackson Thoreson.
