MORAGA, Calif. — The weekend started on the right foot again Friday for the Saint Mary’s baseball team, as the Gaels won for the 11th time behind No. 1 starter Corbin Burnes in a 5-1 victory over San Francisco in the opener of an important three-game West Coast Conference series at Louis Guisto Field.
Burnes (7-0) tied his season high with five walks but still posted his longest outing (7 1/3 innings) since March 24 with eight strikeouts and only one run allowed on four hits. Dan James’ solo home run with two outs in the top of the fourth was the only run Burnes allowed to the Dons (16-27, 10-9 WCC).
