PORTLAND, Ore. — Looking to finish the regular season strong and make a final statement in the push to the top of the standings, the Saint Mary’s baseball team played power baseball Friday, as the Gaels showed strength on the mound and at the plate in a 7-2, 7-1, doubleheader sweep over Portland at Joe Etzel Field.
Saint Mary’s (29-22, 17-9 WCC) got back-to-back complete game outings by Corbin Burnes (9-1) and Johnny York (6-5) in the sweep of the Pilots (17-36, 3-22 WCC). The duo threw 18 innings and combined for 16 strikeouts against just one walk and six total hits.
