EUGENE, Ore. — A tight pitching battle Monday was broken up by small ball, and a comeback rally fell just short in the ninth as the Saint Mary’s baseball team concluded its 2016 regular season in a 2-1 non-conference defeat at Pac-12 Conference member Oregon at PK Park.
The Ducks (29-23) and Gaels (30-23) were locked in a scoreless tie through 5 1/2 innings, both teams only getting one runner as far as third base between the two of them. But the bottom of the sixth began with a leadoff walk, and Oregon made Saint Mary’s pay.
