BSB | Fifth-Inning Rally Puts Stanford Past Gaels

STANFORD, Calif. — Saint Mary’s jumped ahead early Tuesday with a first inning home run, but Stanford broke open a pitchers’ duel with a five-run rally in the fifth, as the Cardinal beat the Gaels 9-1 in a non-conference game at Sunken Diamond.

Zach Kirtley hit his second home run of the season on a 3-0 count in the top of the first to give Saint Mary’s (5-4) an early 1-0 lead. Kirtley’s two home runs this season are already more than the one he had during his entire freshman campaign in 2015. With a team-high six RBIs he is also on pace to top his 29 RBIs from a year ago with 37.
