DURHAM, N.C. — Having found his stride and on a roll since March, Saint Mary’s right-handed pitcher Corbin Burnes was named Wednesday to the USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch List, as announced by the organization.
Burnes is unbeaten (5-0) on the year and so are the Gaels (9-0) when he starts. He is among the West Coast Conference’s top-five in seven categories and the nation’s top-30 in three of them. His 1.50 ERA in 60 innings pitched is No. 2 in the WCC and No. 27 in the country. Burnes has a better-than 4-to-1 strikeouts-to-walks ratio with 64 strikeouts compared to just 15 walks.
