The Kings' foray into esports, competitions using video games, added star power when Hall of Fame center and Kings minority owner Shaquille O'Neal was named general manager of Kings Guard Gaming.
“I’m looking forward to my role with Kings Guard,” O’Neal said in a statement. “Just like I dominated the hardwood, music industry, showbiz, nicknames and broadcasting, I plan to help build the most dominant 2K franchise in history.”
Along with O'Neal, Kings Vice President of Strategy and Analytics Luke Bornn will help with the 2K League draft Wednesday. Kings Guard Gaming selects fourth in the first round and will select six players overall.
