The Sacramento Kings announced that former center Vlade Divac will rejoin the organization as vice president of basketball and franchise operations.
His duties will consist of advising majority owner Vivek Ranadive, members of the front office, and the coaching staff. The position places Divac atop the basketball hierarchy within the organization, but the practical implications remain to be seen.
Ranadive reportedly created the position to utilize Divac’s overseas sources and contacts, his familiarity with the franchise and the community, and his preference for an entertaining style of play.
Divac was key piece of the Kings during his tenure with the team from 1999-2005, the most successful period in Sacramento's history.
