Why Rutgers' top-rated kick-coverage unit faces a tough task in Maryland's Ty Johnson

PISCATAWAY -- A year ago, Rutgers ranked last in the Big Ten statistically in kickoff coverage posting a 34.0 net average. For perspective, Minnesota ranked first with a 42.1 net average.

In 44 kickoffs, Rutgers only had four touchbacks and the average return was 19 yards (the league average among the other 13 teams was 10.6).

This season has been a different story.

The Scarlet Knights rank first in the Big Ten in kickoff coverage, posting a 42.8 net average.
