PISCATAWAY — Unless you spend your week leading up to the Rutgers football game analyzing the bios of the assistants on the opposing coaching staff, it's safe to say you never heard of Chris Ash until he landed on the radar as a head coaching candidate last Tuesday.
Despite a resume that includes a three-year stint for a Wisconsin program that appeared in consecutive Rose Bowls and a two-year run as co-defensive coordinator for defending National Champion-Ohio State, Ash arrives in New Jersey as a relative unknown.
The 41-year-old has never been a head coach, but now he will take over a Rutgers program on the heels of a 4-8 campaign marred by a string of off-field controversies.
