Indeed, the Scarlet Knights ranked 126th out of 128 FBS teams nationally in the rush defense statistically, yielding 3,170 yards — or averages of 264.2 yards-per-game and 5.7 yards-per-rush — and 33 touchdowns in a 2-10 campaign.

"Anybody that saw us play saw inconsistency there,'' Niemann said. "A lot of times we had guys in the right position, they were fit up on blocks the way we teach them, but we just weren’t getting the disruption and the physicality at the point of attack that we need to be successful. We’re working really hard on blow delivery and getting off blocks and all the things that go along with being better on rush defense.
