ELIZABETH -- A former Rutgers University football star and NFL player pleaded not guilty Monday to a charge alleging he gave a gun to a man prior to a shooting outside a city bar in December.

Khaseem Greene, 28, appeared before Superior Court Judge Robert Kirsch for an arraignment on a charge of unlawful possession of handgun.

Greene's lawyer, Josh McMahon, said his client has no prior criminal record and called the charge against Greene baseless.

"He has zero criminal history," McMahon said, accusing the prosecutor's office of being "overzealous" in bringing the case against Greene.
