PISCATAWAY -- Knowing his Rutgers football team was a decisive underdog against No. 8 Washington in the season opener Friday night, Chris Ash could've used it as motivation.
"Being an underdog is someone else's opinion, not ours,'' the Rutgers coach said heading into the game. "Our motivating factor is going out and playing the best football that we can play to be honest with you. I believe that type of stuff can only carry you so far anyway. When the foot hits the ball it's about executing.''
The Scarlet Knights came out executing, scoring a touchdown on its opening possession to put a scare into four-touchdown-favorite Washington.
