The unique 'good-luck charm' Chris Ash added to fire up Rutgers defense before a shutout

PISCATAWAY -- Tired of telling his team to generate more takeaways, Rutgers coach Chris Ash walked around the team hotel Saturday morning carrying a football with him everywhere he went.

"He was having everyone touch it, saying as a defense we have to force turnovers and as an offense we have to score points," safety Kiy Hester told NJ Advance Media. "He might have to start doing that every week. That was probably our good-luck charm right there."

Rutgers forced four turnovers -- three interceptions, including one by Hester that would have been returned for a touchdown if not for a block in the back penalty on the run-back -- in a 65-0 win against Morgan State at High Point Solutions Stadium.
