C. Vivian Stringer is closing in on her 1,000th victory as a college basketball coach, an incredible journey that began 47 years ago at tiny Cheyney State with a win against ... somebody.
No one, however, seems to know who that somebody is. Cheyney State doesn't know. The NCAA doesn't know. Rutgers did some digging before the longtime coach posted her 900th win a few years back, practically begging for the records from her first few seasons, and came up empty.
Stringer herself doesn't even have a clue, and that, given her uncanny ability to recall even the smallest details from her career, is remarkable in itself.
