Separation in Rutgers QB race | 7 observations from open practice

While quarterbacks Kyle Bolin, Giovanni Rescigno and Johnathan Lewis each had series with the starting offense, Bolin was clearly the lead horse as he took the first rep or first series each time. At the start of training camp, that was Rescigno's right, but the returning starter had an off day Saturday.

Graduate transfers Bolin (Louisville) and Gus Edwards (Miami) connected for a touchdown pass.

As expected of a true freshman, Lewis looks more comfortable running than passing under pressure, but he is showing enough to potentially earn early-season series -- like Tylin Oden had last season in a different offensive system -- if coordinator Jerry Kill reverses course and decides he wants to play more than one quarterback.
