Rutgers wrestling undone by late takedowns in loss to No. 8 Cornell | Rapid Reaction

NEW YORK -- The established formula for the Rutgers wrestling team to score nationally recognized dual meet wins was disrupted Sunday.

With a couple of its reliable wrestlers facing nationally ranked opponents and another not in the lineup, No. 10 Rutgers lost 28-10 to No. 8 Cornell in the Grapple at the Garden.

Back at Madison Square Garden for the first time since the NCAA Championships in March, Rutgers started its doubleheader day with a 39-3 victory over Columbia.

After splitting three-point decisions in the first four bouts against Cornell, Rutgers scored the first bonus points of the match when John Van Brill continued a fast start to his first season in the lineup with an 8-0 major decision at 157 to give Rutgers a 10-6 lead.
